Jayhawks Reunited! Two Must-See Shows this Summer
The alternative folk/rock band, The Jayhawks, are back together and performing two reunion shows this summer, once at the Barcelona Primavera Festival on May 30, and once at Minneapolis's Basilica Block Party on July 10 (my sister got me tix). Formed in the mid-80’s, the band played together for about a decade before individual members started to break off doing solo projects. The Jayhawks have a diverse style which has been described as straight rock, country-ish, and even psychedelic. I most often think of the Jayhawks sounding like what Crosby, Still, Nash, & Young would sound like if they were making music today (and still in their prime). Often mellow and melodic, The Jayhawk’s moody riffs and somber lyrics are perfect for lazy summer afternoons.
Download “Rainy Day Music” and play it as background tunes two or three times. You’ll soon be hooked. Also be on the lookout for future tour dates for The Jayhawks. The band has announced that they plan to play Bonnaroo next year, but no word as of yet if it will include the original members.
